Roberts Means Roncevic Kapela LLC (“RMRK”) is honored to announce the addition of attorney, Michelle Baldwin Skaggs, to its expanding law firm. With over 20 years of professional experience, Skaggs will lead RMRK’s Estate Planning & Elder Law Practice Group within RMRK’s Divorce & Family Law and Business Law teams, working from the firm’s Carmel office.
Skaggs has extensive experience developing individualized estate plans to protect clients’ assets both in the present and in the future as their legacies pass to family, friends and charities, by way of a wide range of planning vehicles and methods. She works with clients’ existing financial advisors or may assemble an entire team to devise a concerted approach to meet clients’ individual and family goals. RMRK partner Kena Hollingsworth stated that “Michelle’s vast and well-rounded estate planning practice and her commitment to elder law will be a huge benefit to our clients. She will assist our current clients, whether they require modifications to their wills and powers of attorney after a divorce, or simply need better, more efficient and tax-effective estate planning strategies to protect their personal assets or inheritance through various types of trusts.” Hollingsworth continued, “I have known and respected Michelle for many years. We went to law school together, and I could not be more excited to welcome her into our RMRK family. She will be a valued and trusted member of our legal team---not just as my colleague on the Divorce & Family Law Team, but with our business owner and corporate clients as well.”
Skaggs’ business transactions experience includes corporate ownership and governance as well as sophisticated contract preparation, review and negotiation including asset and stock sales, real estate purchases, confidentiality and non-solicitation agreements. Ms. Hollingsworth’s fellow partner Jeffrey D. Roberts is eager to work alongside Michelle in serving the firm’s business clients. “Michelle is a great addition to our Business Law Team, and we are excited to continue to expand our capabilities beyond the group’s litigation foundation,” Roberts said. “While we assist clients with litigated disputes every day, our preferred approach is to help our clients to avoid reaching that point in the first place. This includes providing guidance with reviewing or drafting contracts, negotiating amicable resolutions, or simply providing sound and complete business strategies and solutions. Having Michelle on board will allow us to further this effort, along with providing us experience in tax planning, and we are pleased to be in a position to provide an even greater universe of services to our business clients.”
Prior to joining RMRK, Skaggs practiced at Cook Legal Services, LLC, and Baldwin Legal Services, LLC. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University’s E.W. Kelley School of Business in Indianapolis, majoring in accounting. After starting her career with a Big Four accounting firm, she realized a law degree would vastly increase the value she could provide to clients. Skaggs returned to Indiana University for law school, earning her J.D. from the Robert H. McKinney School of Law, with emphases in business and taxation.
